Living with Expectant Hope

Do you ever feel that there are too many voices speaking into your head? At times, it may feel challenging to know and hear God’s voice above them all. The enemy chooses to tackle our minds in ways that make us doubt the faithfulness and steadiness of who God is.

Recently, my small group was discussing the helmet of Salvation, mentioned in Ephesians 6. In this passage, Paul writes about the importance of believers putting on the armor of God. He then goes on to list the specific pieces of armor and what they each protect or assist with.

In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. – Ephesians 6:16-18

When you think about a helmet, what is it trying to protect? Your head. Your mind, your thoughts, your brain. Even much more, when we think of salvation, we may feel that this is something distant promised to us. We might think salvation is for when we die and are with Christ in eternity. However, Salvation is for us now in this life.

Salvation is a gift and a promise to us here while living out our time on Earth. Salvation gives us not only hope but purpose for what we are stewarding in our lives. Through the resurrection of Christ, we have much to hold onto when it comes to hope.

We have promises of Christ that we are indeed a new creation. Our old is gone, and the new life is here for us, in the now. Even as we come across challenging circumstances in our lifestyle, we can live with expectant hope that Christ is with us, for us, and going ahead of us for our good.

We recently talked about the verse 1 Corinthians 13:13 at church. It is such a reminder than faith, hope and love are all important to our walk in Christ. Yet, out of the three, the greatest is love.

So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.  – 1 Corinthians 13:13

Through the Father’s love for us, He sent His Son to die for us, paying a debt that we owed. Out of His Great Love, we were given the gift of salvation, which allows us to live intentionally and purposefully presently and for what is to come. We can expectantly hope and wait for the Lord because of His faithfulness and love towards us.

With love,

Claire
