Takeaways from the Old Testament

I finished reading through the Old Testament chronologically today! Still processing how God’s faithfulness and glory is on full display through the Bible, but I wanted to share a few takeaways from my readings:

  1. God’s sovereignty is noticeable in the big picture moments and the ordinary as well. It was sweet to see God’s sovereignty, faithfulness, and love throughout books such as Ruth, Esther, and Job. However, reading through all of the Old Testament, you can see God putting pieces of the puzzle together from Genesis to Malachi.
  2. Because of how abundant and great God’s love is towards us, Christ came so that we can have a right relationship with God. Throughout so much of the Old Testament, you see the love of God displayed by His grace, mercy, compassion, and just over the people.
  3. Our stories are meaningful to God. What we do with our lives and how we choose to respond to God has the ability to transform us, the people around us, and the generations to come. Over the Old Testament, I was able to see how generations were impacted by the faithful obedience of God’s people.
  4. God allows for redemption to be fulfilled. He not only allowed for redemption of our sins to be fulfilled by Christ, but within the brokenness and wickedness of the world, through people’s stories, God turns beauty from the ashes. He sees the hearts of His people, cares for them, and fulfills promises for them to be restored by Him.

These are my takeaways so far from reading through the Old Testament this year. I would love to know your thoughts of the Old Testament and if you’ve read through it chronologically before. Also hope this encourages you to pick up your Bible today and read about our wonderful and marvelous God.

With love,

Claire
